My heart is absolutely breaking for those who have been devastated by Helene.
With Milton expecting to make landfall in the next day, I know quite a few people who are currently evacuating... All of these hurricanes...one of the worst seasons in years many have been saying.
I have even seen a few trainers post on social media: their training facilities are open and are currently taking those who need shelter, especially their animals in FL.
It seems places in the northern parts of FL and areas in GA are also becoming shelters for those who have needed to evacuate the West Coast.
This is a serious reason as to why crate training is extremely important for your dogs. I have seen photos of places with crates lined up and available for those with dogs, but if your dog cannot settle in a crate, what use is it? Myriads of shelters (or places turned into shelters) are not going to allow your dog(s) to run loose because you thought crate training was cruel. 🤷🏽♀️
A crate is a place where your dog can settle; where they learn to turn off their minds and rest. Understandably (and even for humans) during times of extreme weather and emotions running high, it may be hard for anyone to settle. A foundation of crate training, can help you and your dog, even during times of devastation.
This is an EXTREME example as to why crate training is important. It's not often we are hit with hurricanes, but living near the Jersey Shore and seeing all of the hurricanes down south just got me thinking about what to do with my animals in an emergency......
If you can start your dogs off on the right paw with crate training as soon as they come into your home, life will be so much easier!
I'm planning to possibly sell merch next week to help those affected by the hurricanes... I'll make posts and send emails out once I figure that out!
